Paradox of realistic and unrealistic thinking

Paradox of realistic and unrealistic thinking

People say that realistic thinking together with reasonable action, will give you what you want.
Well, Zig Ziglar said:

If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time

It’s not apply only with goals, but also, with problems.
When you look at your problems (especially where they are very hard), with realistic and reasonable thinking, you will never overcome them, same, when you working on your dreams.
Because, bigger dream = bigger problems, difficulties and obstacles.
If you want to change your life (e.g because of having personal or financial problems) or to make dream come true, you can be sure, that meeting many kind of problems, sometimes very hard and big, its only a matter of time.

Soon, as you start realize your dream, things, connected more or less with your goal, surely become complicated. I don’t want to discourage you, but you should know, that fighting for your dream is a fight in full meaning of this word, but it’s not a fight like when you must beat your opponent to death, because your only opponent is you, especially, fear (connected with lose of faith and hope, laziness, procrastination including listening people that want to demotivate you). It’s your choice what you do with that.

Therefore, you should know:

It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward – Rocky Balboa.

Thinking completely not realistic, even crazy, can help you overcome biggest difficulties and obstacles and this will be useful later, almost on every difficult situation in your life.

Maybe, others will call you „crazy” and „insane”, but you can call them „normal”, and that, in my opinion is a biggest insult, much bigger than word ”insane”.
Calling you insane or crazy, should be treaten by you, like a biggest complement, because being „crazy” is connected with originality, uniqueness, going outside the scheme, outside the box.

Do you know someone who has achieved something, especially something big, remaining average?
Me neither.
Being normal is boring, predictable and schematic.

In addition, I think it’s some kind of bad understood of words like „realistic”, „reasonable” and „crazy” or „insanity”.

If we think more deeper, at the same time looking at people that are happy and successful (this doesn’t have to be connected with money and fame), we realize, that in practice, in life (and every difficulties connected with life) insanity is reasonable and realistic thinking is completely useless.

So, we don’t have reason to use „realistic and reasonable” thinking and action, because this isn’t effective if we want to achieve something big.

You don’t like ambitious goals? I know the reason of that. It’s because you know that is connected with a lot of hard work – learning, practicing, opposing with yourself and others.
Expectation that it will be easy, it’s crazy, but in the very negative meaning of that word, like a bungee jumping without a rope. „Insane” doesn’t always and exactly mean „stupid”.

Being realistic is the most common path to mediocrity – Will Smith

Let me expand this topic, by using story – example.

Two persons want to realize one dream, become a rally driver.
Person one („reasonable realist”, we can name him Thomas) starts from reading books about famous rally drivers, later, he goes to school, connected with this field.
After 5 years of study, finally, he want to try to sit behind the wheel drive of rally car.
He takes his books, notes, looks at cockpit, starts engine, and slowly, begin to move.
Yes, slowly and carefully, in rally car, because he wants to get used with it (5 years of study was not enough to do that bravely and with verve, oh).
So, notes are correct, theory from five years of study is confirmed but…he’s scared and stressed out.
The first effect of it, is that his „5 years knowledge” flew through the front window of the car.
He don’t know what to do, fear paralyze him.
He thinks: „I was sure that was a simple and easy job and I will be rich, my teacher, Mr. Crowe, told me that, he has a doctorate”.
This teacher never told him that he should start from practice, not theory. Theory without practice is nothing, is useless.
Other reason is that, when we, mainly, guided by desire to make money, we never make money, especially, by wanting „easy money”, without hard work (if you think that studying, reading books is a hard work, life can surprise you negatively…) and loving what we do (without passion or, even, obsession, you will give up faster than you think)

If your only goal is to become rich, you will never achieve it

The author of this quote is John D. Rockefeller, surely, he know what he says.

Later, Thomas gave up a career driver, but, he have a lot of knowledge about driving, so he become a teacher (like Mr. Crowe).

Time for person two (filled with passion, courage and little insane, Piter).

When he have six years old, his father take him to carting track.
Big noise, the stench of burnt tires and exhaust, but little Piter saw only go-cart.
Unfavorable environment was only a meaningless noise, background. Older kids, watched and laughed at him.
He sits behind the wheel and almost immediately (without the five years of study…) know how to drive go-cart (this vehicle was much bigger and heavier than Piter).
After 2 years of driving, Piter has a lot of awards and trophies. When he had 17 years old, for a first time, started in the cup of Formula 2000. After 2 years of success, he become a Formula 3 driver, and finally, as a 21 years old men, he realize his dream by starting in Formula 1.
During his road, he want to quit many times, but passion (he loves what he was doing) make that he never give up. Also, thanks to passion, fear never stopped him.

We think often, that dreams are too big, bigger than ourselves. But when we see only our dream, nothing else matters.

The meaning of noise is not only a loud sound but also, something that trying to disrupt our perception of what is most important to us.
I think this is not a coincidence ;).

Thomas was guided by the fear (carefullness, learning a lot of theory because he want to be „prepared”), Piter, by love (courage, passion, there wasn’t place for reasonable thinking, but for brave action).

So, look at the end of the stories. Who is happy and fullfilled? „Reasonable” Thomas or „insane” Piter?

Also, look at people around you, guided by fear and laziness.
People that don’t have passion, or they too afraid to fight for theyselves, for their dreams.
Working hard, but without satisfaction just as they life is, and because of it.
Do you want to live like this?
Life is short, but it’s a great opportunity and gift from God.
Opportunity to change or make a difference in this world.
Opportunity to be happy and fullfilled.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. – H. Jackson Brown Jr.

You’r dream can make a difference.
Like i said, bigger dream = bigger obstacles, but also, bigger success, if you don’t give up.
Hard work is also very satisfying work, when you love what you do.

If Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, Martin Luther King, Steve Jobs would think about their goals in realistic and reasonable categories, they will not give up too quickly, but would never have started.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man – George Bernard Shaw

Realizing a dream is a big adventure. You don’t know what happens, where do you go and who you meet. This adventure will change you, give you more self-confidence, life-experience and knowledge about human behavior as well as, of course, about yourself.

This road will change you, and even if you don’t realize your dream, you will be another kind of person – stronger and clever. For this reason, road to dream, is more important than dream, itself.

Whatever you think you can do or believe you can do, begin it. Action has magic, grace and power in it – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Take care,
Janusz
